Clam Cove - Nigei Island

Clam Cove on the southern end of Nigei island provides well sheltered anchorage and is a convenient departure point for the crossing of Queen Charlotte Strait. The best anchorage is in the entrance channel as the inner cove is often windy and there are numerous deadhead logs near it's head.

There are numerous opportunities for exploring here. From the head of Clam Cove it is a short hike through the forest to the beaches of Port Alexander. A logging road from the log dump on the north shore of the inner cove leads up into the interior of the island. There are fossil beds in the area. Cardigan Rocks nearby has interesting "holey" stone formations made by rock boring clams.

Note:

The entrance to Clam Cove can be difficult to locate at night or in fog. There can be a heavy swell present off of the entrance in northerly winds particularly when opposed by a strong ebb current.

Walk the beaches of Roller Bay and Shadwell Passage on Hope Island. Hike over to Port Alexander. Lunch at God's Pocket Resort. Collect fossils in Clam Cove. Make the Queen Charlotte Strait crossing in the morning. Closest marina is Port Hardy.
